Carotid Ultrasound Imaging Imaging Intima Media Thickness (IMT) U/S measures arterial thickening and provides the earliest evidence of atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, the beginning stage of a disease process that leads to heart disease and stroke. Doctors can use this carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) measurement to calculate the age of the patient's arteries, which does not always match the patient's calendar age. Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry DEXA Scan is commonly used to assess body composition and changes in body composition. DEXA provides a three-component model of body composition: fat mass (FAT), fat-free soft tissue (FFST), and bone mineral content (BMC). Measures of bone mineral density (BMD) and percent body fat (%BF) are also obtained using fan-beam scanning. Hologic Model: QDR DELPHI-A www.hologic.com.

Pulse Wave Analysis and Pulse Wave Velocity PWA is a computerized clinical assessment tool for measuring central blood pressure. The peripheral pressure pulse waveform contains information in addition to the maximum and minimum values (systolic and diastolic pressures) PWV measures the velocity of the blood pressure waveform between any two superficial artery sites. The velocity is dependent upon the stiffness of the artery along which the pulse is traveling. Values for both are displayed both graphically and numerically. Endothelial Peripheral Arterial Tone Endo-PAT2000 adds an important dimension to cardiovascular prevention by enabling physicians to reliably measure endothelial function and identify pathological cases of endothelial dysfunction. Endothelial dysfunction is the earliest clinically detectable stage of cardiovascular disease.
Endothelial Function Applications are: Basic science and clinical research Pharmacological protocols - assessment of drug efficacy Primary prevention of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) Implementation of clinical protocols for early diagnosis Evaluation of treatment protocols Itamar Medical Model: Endo PAT 2000 www.Itamar-medical.com.

Rapid Glucose Analysis YSI glucose and lactate analyzers have been recognized for standards of measurement in blood glucose and lactate for more than a quarter century. The YSI 2300 STAT measures glucose and lactate simultaneously in whole blood or plasma. Alternatively, configure the analyzer to measure glucose only or measure lactate only.
The YSI 2300 is ideal for: STAT Lab or Central Lab Diabetes Evaluation Diabetes / Endocrinology Research Human Performance Evaluation Exercise / Athlete Evaluation Cardiac / Pulmonary Rehabilitation General Metabolic Research Veterinary Medicine & Research Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance YSI Life science Model: YSI 2300 STAT Plus Glucose & Lactate Analyzer www.ysilifesciences.com.

Oral Glucose Tolerance Testing The oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) measures the body's ability to use glucose, the body's main source of energy. An OGTT can be used to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes. Concentration: 50gm,75gm and100gm. Glucose Tolerance Drinks Azer Scientific www.azerscientific.com

Glucose Clamp Test CLAMP test measures how the body responds to insulin. Subjects fast the night before each test and do not eat until the test is over, usually in the early afternoon. For the test, the subject lies in a bed or reclines in a chair. An intravenous access is placed in a vein in each arm - one for collecting blood samples and the other for infusing glucose and insulin. Blood glucose is measured frequently during the test and the rate of the glucose infusion is adjusted to keep blood glucose at the baseline (fasting) level. Insulin levels are measured at timed intervals via plasma aliquots.

Aneroid Blood Pressure Measurement Selected cuff size appropriate for the patient's arm circumference is applied according to reference range. The cuff is wrapped around the arm with the artery index marker located over the brachial artery and with the lower edge of the cuff 2.5 cm above the bend in the elbow. Cuff is inflated rapidly to a level 30 mmHg above estimated (or palpatory) systolic pressure. Deflation is at a rate of 2 mmHg per second. As the pressure falls, the systolic pressure and diastolic pressure noted. Welch Allyn Models: 509 Tycos and Classic 5098 www.welchallyn.com

Anthropometric Measurements Anthropometry refers to the measurement of the human body and may include measurement of skin folds, circumferences, skeletal breadths and segment lengths. Anthropometric data can be compared to ational/international standards for age, gender, or body frame size or measured over time as part of intervention studies. Utilizing the Gulick II tape we eliminate the guesswork by applying a known amount of tension (four ounces) to the measuring tape. Therefore, accurate measurements are possible no matter who is doing the measuring. Guilick II Plus Tape Measure fitnessmart.com

Subject Randomization A process that assigns research participants by chance, rather than by choice, to either the investigational group or the control group.Single-blinded trials are those in which participants do not know which group they are in and therefore which intervention they are receiving - until the conclusion of the study. Double-blinded trials are those in which neither the participant nor the investigators know to which group the participant has been assigned until the conclusion of the study.
